Thakur Lal Singhji Shaktawat

Thikana- Jagat- Chandora, Mewar

Life History

1. Shri Lal Singhji Shaktawat was born on 05 Jan 1895 at village Jagat, district Udaipur (Mewar) to Thakur Saheb Parbat Singhji Shaktawat and Thakurani Kumari Jhalaji of Thikana Jagat. Shaktawats are descendent of Maharaja Shakti Singh younger brother of Maharana Pratap- the great warrior of Mewar State.

2. Thikana Jagat is located in hilly area with thick forest about 30kms North east of Udaipur city and about 10 kms from Jaisamand Lake and which is the largest man made lake in south east Asia.

3. A well known ancient temple dedicated to Goddess JAGDAMBA built during Gupta dynasty in 6-7 century AD with well designed and preserved stone and sculptures work is located in Jagat and is also called Min- Khajurao of Mewar.

4. Shri Lal Singhji Shaktawat was fifth and the youngest child in the family. As a young goring up child he was influenced by the Kshtriya qualities of leadership, valour, and honesty and the religious fervor of the family where Shrimad Geetaji and Shri Ramayan were read during morning and evening prayers by his parents. TS Parbat Singhji used to learn Yoga from his guru Shri Navalgir and Sh Lal Singhji also learnt Yoga Sadhana and continued his study learning and practice of Yoga through his life.

5. He completed early schooling up to 5th Standard at Udaipur. But due to lack of proper higher level school and general apathy of Rajput boys towards education he completed his higher studies in school from DAV school. He did his graduation (B.A) from Got College in Ajmer which was the best location for studies in then Rajputana Province. Being a sincere and studious student he always topped the class examination and was awarded scholarship throughout his school and college education. Shri Lal Singhji Shaktawat was aware that the Thikana was not financially sound, hence he never burdened his parents for bearing the cost of his educating him. He learnt to manage his finances for education and hostel through scholarship and teaching. During his school and college studies he was asked by his class fellow Kunwar Vishwanath Singhji of Semari Thikana to be his room mate at Mayo college Ajmer and Got College Hostel due to friendly and helpful nature and being very sharp and intelligent student very unlike other Rajput boys.

6. Sh Lal Singhji Shaktawat was the first graduate from Rajput Family of the then Mewar state. In order to continue further studies in law, he approached the then Thakur of Kakarwa Thikana for grasting a loan to him so that he could finance his studies. He was thus able to complete his post graduation in Law (LLB) and was again the first Law graduate from Rajput Family of Mewar State.
